Controller

Currently, Sockeye Business Solutions is seeking a Controller for a 100% Remote role. The Controller will oversee all company accounting practices, including the accounting department, preparing budgets, financial reports, tax and audit functions. They will work with the executive team to direct financial strategy, planning, and execution to ensure Sockeye’s financial health. The Controller will work with each team member to help them succeed in their professional growth, alignment with Sockeye's objectives, and ensure team members have a balanced workload. They will lead internal department initiatives and assist the team with technical or client escalations.

Technical Functions:

  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and integration of all financial data and functions.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Advanced usage of Sage Intacct to enter, review, and maintain records, and prepare reports.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting processes.
  • Coordinate with and prepare reports for CFO and management.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with banks, external and internal auditors, and other third-party relationships.
  • Coordinate audit activities and implement audit recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Willingness to get your hands dirty and pitch in on accounting entry, AP and AR functions when needed

People Management:

  • Meet regularly with direct reports for technical and personal guidance.

  • Take ownership of the team's successes and failures.
  • Act as the internal escalation point for the department.
  • Review and approve/deny PTO for direct reports.
  • Approve semi-monthly time off requests, timesheets and department schedules
  • Complete and deliver performance reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Eight years (8) or more of related experience required.
  • Three (3) years Accounting Manager experience preferred.
  • Three (3) years of Sage Intacct experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • SaaS experience required.
